This forum will focus on the interesting topic of titrating oral vitamin C intake to so-called bowel tolerance, the point just prior to the onset of diarrhea

Changes in Bowel Tolerance

Post Number:#1  Post by Stargazer1111 » Mon Dec 26, 2016 3:25 pm

You know how they say wine is full of antioxidants? I believe I have demonstrated this to be true.

Normally, my bowel tolerance is 4 grams every 4 hours. Alcohol is metabolized into acetaldehyde which causes a lot of oxidative stress. So, if I drink liquor or beer, my bowel tolerance doubles so that I can take 4 grams every 2 hours with no diarrhea.

However, when I drink red wine, my bowel tolerance remains unchanged or sometimes actually decreases so that I get diarrhea on my usual 4 grams every 4 hours. This indicates that the antioxidants in red wine are lessening to the need for vitamin C.

Interesting.
